Katie leads the communications and outreach efforts for The Engaging News Project, based out The University of Texas in Austin. Previously, she’s worked as a reporter for The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Bakersfield Californian, and The Daily Nebraskan. She has also experience in corporate communications and public relations.


Penny Riordan

Penny manages digital content partnerships for GateHouse Media, based in the Center for News and Design in Austin. Prior to joining the company, she worked at Patch.com for four years, where she led their social media, blogging, and UGC efforts. Penny has also worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Maryland and Connecticut.


Dan Seaman

Director of Product,


A digital media veteran, Dan has built his digital publishing career over the last 15 years. He’s held key strategy and leadership roles managing consumer products across enterprise divisions for big-name Canadian media groups like St. Joseph Media, Quebecor, TC Media, and The Globe and Mail. In these roles, he quickly established himself as a thought leader on the rise of mobile in media and marketing.
